A mobile storage unit is an often inexpensive way of relocating items. They vary in size, dimensions and weight support. Before using a mobile storage unit, it is important to know the precautions necessary to ensure the use of your storage unit is safe for both you and your belongings. At UNITS® Moving and Portable Storage of Cincinnati our moving experts are waiting to answer your call and assist you with all aspects of utilizing one of our secure storage containers!

Store large, heavy items towards the back of the unit

Furniture and heavy boxes should be placed towards the back of the unit on the bottom. Disassemble furniture and place table and legs, headboards, bed frames, mattresses, dressers and cabinets upright and on the side to open up more floor space. Remember to go vertical with your belongings. Boxes should be stacked high with the heavier ones on the bottom.

Use all available space

Once everything has been loaded, make sure you have used all available space inside your mobile storage unit. Inquire about weight limits for the unit to ensure that your possessions will be moved safely and securely. If you are uncertain of the weight of your belongings simply use a bathroom scale to weigh each item before putting them inside your unit.

Location, location, location

Decide where you are going to park your mobile storage unit. Keep in mind that it could be in your driveway for several weeks depending on how long it takes for you to unload your belongings. Choose a spot that will make it easy to access whenever you need to do unloading or just get one or two items.
