Follow These Tips to Update Your Car Registration and Driver’s License After a Move

If you’re moving, you must provide your new address to the state and change your driver’s license and car registration. Here are a few tips from UNITS Moving and Portable Storage of San Diego on how to do that:

1. Gather your paperwork. Before heading to the DMV, you must grab your driver’s license, vehicle registration, proof of insurance, and residency documentation.

2. Call your old DMV. Notify the DMV of your name change so they can produce new identification cards. They will then forward your documents to the new DMV.

3. Get a new driver’s license. You’ll need to get a new driver’s license from the DMV in your new state.

4. Register your car. You must notify the DMV if you change your address. A new license plate and registration sticker will be required.
