With all of the hard work that goes into maintaining a garden, it’s no wonder you want to take it along with you on the move.

UNITS Moving and Storage of Los Angeles is here to offer five easy and simple tips that will help ensure your plants make it to the new home safe and sound!

Consider the Weather

The season and its conditions can greatly affect the roots of your plants when they’re uprooted. Summer and winter are not the best months to move with plants; if possible, try moving during the spring and fall. That will increase their chances of making it to your new home safely.

Conserve Their Energy

Trimming and pruning are essential to keep any plant healthy. But that is especially the case when you’re moving them. The larger they are, the more energy they consume. You can help the plants conserve energy by trimming off the dead leaves and a bit of the excess foliage.

Water Them Thoroughly

To help ease the stress on your plants during the move, ensure they are thoroughly hydrated before uprooting them. You can do this by watering them the night before you uproot them. It will leave plenty of time for the roots and soil to soak up the water.

Take Time Uprooting

And finally, it’s time to uproot them. So, grab a trowel, and dig a circle around the plant, avoiding any roots. Once that’s done, lift the plant out of the ground while still keeping some soil attached to the roots. Place the uprooted plant in a planter for transport.

Replant When You Arrive

Once you arrive at your new home, you will want to replant as soon as possible. You can make this process easier by mapping out where you will put your plants before you transport them to the new home. It’s also wise to make your plants the last thing to move so they’re uprooted for a less amount of time.
