Many people time their moves for the summer – yes, even during the time of coronavirus – as it often works out best for students, families, and busy professionals. Unfortunately, this often means dealing with stifling heat. In ordinary times, you would likely be able to lean on hiring on professionals for all your heavy lifting. While you may still have access to such services depending on your location, there are a number of ways you can make your summer moving experience go much smoother.
Be sure to bring plenty of water bottles for you and your helpers – you’re going to need it! No matter what shape you’re in, you’ll be sweating as you haul heavy objects under the summer sun. You and your helpers will be much more comfortable – not to mention safer – if you’re well hydrated.
For obvious reasons, you don’t want to wait until noon to start moving your belongings. Start your moving day as early as possible to beat the heat. If you can’t get a jumpstart on the day, you may want to consider moving in the late afternoon or evening so you can take advantage of the summer temperatures.
When you are moving literally all of your belongings, it can be easy to forget just how fragile and sensitive your electronics are. Make sure to keep them safe from heat and sun – you don’t want expensive devices to be damaged in the moving process. Pack them separately and keep them in air conditioning whenever possible.
While this may sound like a no-brainer, you should avoid planning moves around holiday weekends. While you may have an extra day or two off work, the traffic may end up setting you back in schedule. You’ll also likely have less movers and truck rentals available – and at a higher price, to boot.
