About Watson Island

A man-made island off the coast of Downtown Miami, Watson Island once served as a site only for public and municipal purposes.  Today, the island is a small neighborhood offering many sites and attractions to offer something to explore outside the city of Miami.

  • Miami Children’s Museum is a family fun venue has 14 galleries of child-centric entertainment, including a 2-story castle with sample of sand from all over the world and a giant walk-in piggy bank. On site are also event rooms (your child can have a birthday party here), classrooms and an auditorium.
  • Jungle Island is currently undergoing a reinvention. Originally a zoo, it is now being reimagined as an eco-friendly resort with a hotel and activities such as ziplines. For now, you can visit Joia Beach Restaurant & Beach Club right on the property.
  • Ichimura Japanese Garden is a quiet and peaceful spot to visit. Here you can participate in a traditional tea ceremony, festivals with Japanese food vendors and demos of martial arts and Japanese flower arranging.
  • Miami Yacht Club has sailing programs for all ages and hosts races and regattas. You can eat a meal at the properties lounge and bar.
  • Miami Outboard Club has been in business since 1948. This members-only facility contains boat slips and dry storage, plus a nautical themed restaurant that serves Latin fare. The club is committed to community service and hosts inner city kid’s fishing trips and holiday parties for seniors, among other events. They are also known for their commitment to the environment.
  • Island Gardens is an event venue that hosts concerts and private events. It is the site of a super-yacht marina. Visitors can dine at The Deck, where the marina and the yachts can be viewed.
  • Watson Island Park has a public boat ramp and is also a great place to sit and take in the views of the Miami skyline. From here you can also watch seaplanes take off at the adjacent base and cruise ships coming and going from the Port of Miami.
