Moving and starting a new job are stressful events on their own, but dealing with both at the same time can be a lot to handle. To make sure that your moving experience is as hassle-free as possible, read on for some helpful tips from the team at UNITS® Moving and Portable Storage of Charleston, South Carolina.

Ask about relocation benefits

It’s always best to check with your benefits coordinator about any relocation services they can offer. Your employer might have a relocation package or other benefits that can help make your transition a little easier. They may be able to cover your moving expenses or closing costs if you decide to sell your house.

Research the area

You should always do some research on housing expenses and the cost of living in your new location before you begin your move. Landing a new job with a higher salary is exciting, but if the new neighborhood is more expensive than the one you’re moving from, you may need to budget your finances more.

Hire a moving service

If your new job means you’ll be moving long-distance, it’s essential to use a reputable and insured moving company that handles this type of relocation. At UNITS® Moving and Portable Storage, we offer different storage container sizes and we’ll deliver your belongings to your new home for you.

Take care of transition details

Once you’re ready to start your big move, make sure you take care of the transitional details that can turn into a hassle. Have utility services, such as gas, electric, and Internet connections turned on in your new home on moving day to make things a little easier. You should also notify your credit card companies, banks, and other important contacts of your new address.

Moving to Charleston? Check out these local attractions

Few would argue that Charleston, with its natural beauty, history, and culture, is one of America’s favorite destination cities. Historic Antebellum Mansions, architectural wonders, Civil war sites, pristine beaches, barrier islands, and mouthwatering low country cuisine are just a few reasons why the city captivates all who visit. Beautiful year round, the weather can’t be beat here! Read on to see some of our favorite attractions in Charleston:

Fort Sumter

On April 12, 1861 the Confederacy fired on Fort Sumter, located on an island in Charleston Harbor, and the war began. Fort Sumter is a sea fort on an artificial island built to protect Charleston from naval invasion. The fort is accessible by ferry boat and visitors will explore the well preserved ruins with a National Park ranger and browse in the museum store. Step back in time and experience the opening battle of the American Civil War!

Angel Oak Tree

Located in Angel Oak Park on John’s Island, the famous Angel Oak Tree is a sight to behold! The massive Oak tree, which is believed to be around 400 years old, has vast limbs that stretch and produce shade that covers about 17,000 square feet. The tree is named for the estate on which it stood and legend says that the ghosts of slaves appeared around the tree at night so the tree became “Angel”.
