There is not a person alive who rejoices at the thought of having to move. Everything from packing to organizing and physically moving drains you both mentally and emotionally. Achieving a successful move requires careful planning and execution. With our below steps, you’ll be ready to relocate in 2 weeks or even less:

Step 1: Get Prepared

  • Moving boxes and packing supplies are essential. You’ll need to arrange for the move from your old home to your new one as soon as you’ve decided to relocate. Packing is an important aspect of this operation, therefore, you’ll need materials.
  • Call utility companies. You can transfer your utilities from one address to another online or by phone. To prevent having a problem with your electricity or water later, make sure to do it early in the process. Also, call to verify some days before the move.
  • Make travel arrangements. If you’re moving and your new place isn’t ready yet, make sure to have a backup plan for where you’ll stay, whether that’s a hotel, Airbnb, or couch-surfing with friends or family. The important part is finding someplace comfortable where you can relax during the transition.

Step 2: Get Organized

  • Take notes on each room of your current home as you walk through it. Consider how the items in each area may transfer to your new house. This will assist you in packing properly and keeping relevant stuff together.
  • Get rid of any items you rarely use and won’t need within the next couple of weeks. If you don’t need or regularly use it, get rid of it or donate it before moving day so that you have less to worry about.
  • Set aside items you’ll need right up to the wire, like cooking equipment, clothing, toiletries, and other vital things.

Step 3: Start Packing

  • Pack everything you’ve decided is not necessary for the time remaining in your house. Make a note of which room each box goes to, and write the number on the box. Add up all of the boxes in each room at the end of the process, so you know if one is missing.
  • Get rid of anything that made it through your initial spring cleaning but isn’t precious enough to warrant packing. You can donate or discard items you don’t really require or utilize.
  • Pack your stuff carefully. Use bubble wrap, packing paper, and furniture bags to protect your belongings. Keep breakable items together as much as possible and mark them as “Fragile.”

Step 4: Finalize

  • Clean the house or apartment thoroughly. Mop the floor, tidy out the fridge, and do any other cleaning that you couldn’t perform while it was full of stuff. Because now, it isn’t filled with stuff!
  • Make a few trips to your new home in the days leading up to the move. Trying to relocate everything you own in one day can be extremely overwhelming. By making multiple trips, you’ll feel more productive and reduce the amount of stuff that needs to be moved on moving day.
  • Pack your non-essentials. You may store any cooking utensils, clothing, or toiletries you no longer need.
  • Pack an overnight bag for your first night. You don’t want to dig through one box for your toothbrush, search for sheets in another, or fight to remember which box has clean undies. Pack an overnight bag with bedding, toiletries, and a fresh change of clothing, so you have everything you need all in one place when you’re trying to avoid walking into boxes the next day.
