When you move, there are a few things you’ll need to take care of in order to update your records. You’ll need to provide your new address to the state and change your driver’s license and car registration. Here are a few tips from UNITS Moving and Portable Storage of San Antonio on how to do that.
1. Gather your paperwork. Before you go to the DMV, don’t forget to bring your driver’s license, vehicle registration, proof of insurance, and residency documentation.
2. Call your old DMV. After you notify the DMV of your name change, they will produce new identification cards and forward your documents to the appropriate authorities.
3. Get a new driver’s license. You’ll need to get a new driver’s license from the DMV in your new state.
4. Register your car. You must notify the DMV if you change your address. A new license plate and registration sticker will be required.
5. Update your address on file. It’s also a good idea to double-check that your vehicle registration and driver’s license are current. If this is the case, you’ll receive important DMV alerts, such as reminders to renew your plates.
