Just because you’re moving doesn’t mean you have to lose all of the hard work and effort that you put into gardening. You can take your plants along for the move – simply follow these tips from UNITS Moving and Portable Storage of Omaha

Spring and Fall are Ideal

If you have the option, we recommend moving during the spring and fall months. That’s because the gentler temperatures provide a safer environment for your plants and their exposed roots during the move. Summer and winter can make it harder to ensure your plants survive the move.

Trimming and Pruning Ease Stress

Trimming and pruning are standard gardening practices that can help your plants thrive long-term. They are also good practices for helping your plant conserve energy and survive the move. So don’t be afraid to cut off all of those wilting leaves and some of that excess foliage.

Hydration Equals Health

Hydrating your plants the night before you uproot them can make them feel nourished and safe for the journey ahead. Simply follow your typical watering routine at night, and they’ll be ready to uproot the next day.

Uproot With Care

When the time to uproot your plants finally comes, you will need a trowel and gardening containers. Using your trowel, dig a circle around the plant wide enough to avoid hitting and damaging the roots. After that, carefully lift the plant out of the soil. And finally, place the uprooted plant in an appropriate-sized container. Repeat each step with all of your plants. If possible, try uprooting and moving your plants last; this will help prevent them from spending too much time out of the soil.

Replant Quickly

You need to replant everything as soon as possible. That is the key to ensuring your plants survive the move. If you need to help optimize the process, try mapping and digging out a spot for each plant before you move them. That way, you can quickly place them in the soil as soon as you arrive.
