Getting to know Little Haiti

With waves of Haitian immigrants finding refuge in the area in the 80’s, this pocket of Miami eared its namesake.  Today, Little Haiti is beaming with the celebration of Caribbean life with a vibrant art, music and food scene.

Immerse yourself in culture with the Little Haiti Culture Center

  • The Little Haiti Cultural Center is a good place to begin your exploration. It’s filled with Haitian art, sculpture and crafts. On the first Friday of every month is the Sounds of Haiti, a festival with live music, food and dancing. Once you’ve moved to Little Haiti you can take classes in ceramics and folk dance here too!
  • The Caribbean Marketplace is open on the grounds of the Little Haiti Cultural Center every Saturday.
  • Sweat Records is a long-standing indie record shop that features all kinds of music, plus a vegan coffee shop and live events such as comedy shows.
  • Do a gallery hop. We can’t list all the galleries here, but a few favorites are Emerson Dorsch, IRL Institute, the Laundromat Art Space and Nina Johnson.
  • Libreri Mapou sells rare books in French, Creole and English plus International newspapers. It’s a great place to linger and browse.
