An essentials box is a life-saver when you’re moving. It has all the basic tools and items you need to start unpacking and prepping your new home, so you’re not stuck rummaging through endless boxes. Not sure what goes in an essentials box? Here are the top 5 essential items.
The last thing you’ll want to do before you lock up your old home for the final time is to make sure it’s clean. What’s more, it can also be a good idea to give your new place a quick cleaning as well. This way, you start off on the right foot in your new home.
To make your move-in as smooth as possible, have a roll of toilet paper and some hand soap on hand for an accessible restroom. Additionally, it’s helpful to pack your essential toiletries like shampoo, a razor, face wash, a toothbrush, and toothpaste together in one place. If you’re unsure about the state of affairs at your new digs regarding showers, bringing along a shower curtain is always a good idea.
Chances are, you will have to partially disassemble some pieces of furniture so that they fit snugly in the moving truck. This means that you will need a few tools on hand. Your toolkit should, at a minimum, include an Allen wrench, a box wrench, and flathead and Phillips head screwdrivers of various sizes. Additionally, bring extension cords, power strips, lightbulbs, and painter’s tape.
During your move, be sure to keep any important personal documents on your person rather than in a box. You can put these items in a ziplock bag or manila envelope for extra protection.
