At UNITS Moving and Portable Storage of Houston, we offer more than just portable storage containers – we offer advice on how to make moving an easy and stress-free experience.

In today’s articles, we are sharing five tips to help move your plants to your new home in Houston!

The Season Matters

The season you move in matters when it comes to transporting plants. Plant roots can be sensitive to the harsh temperatures of summer and winter. That’s why if you have the option to move in the spring or fall, we recommend it.

Trim and Save

Another way you can reduce the burden on your plants is by trimming and pruning. Something to remember is that plants use energy, and the larger they are, the more energy they need to survive. By trimming them down before you move, you’re allowing them to conserve energy for the stressful transport period.

Nourish Them

Hydration is also a crucial factor in ensuring your plants survive the move. The night before you plan to uproot them, give them a thorough watering. That will allow them adequate time for the roots and soil to soak up all of the water.

Uproot Slow and Steady

When it’s finally time to uproot them, you will want to take tremendous care in doing so. To help avoid damaging any roots, dig a wide circle around the plant with a trowel. Follow that by carefully lifting the plant out of the ground while keeping some soil attached to the base. Make sure to have an adequate-sized planter nearby to place the uprooted plant into.

Replant When You Arrive

And last but not least, you want to replant as soon as possible. To make the process smooth and quick, map out where you want the plants before moving them to your new home. It’s also wise to make your plants the last thing you move to the home. It will reduce the amount of time the plant spends uprooted.
