Gardening takes a lot of time, money, and effort. It’s no wonder that you may have concerns about not being able to take all of your hard work along for the move. But UNITS Moving and Portable Storage of Greenville SC is here to tell you that there is no need to worry!

We have five easy tips to help safely transport your plants to your new home in Greenville.

Plan With The Season

If you haven’t already set your moving date, you may want to consider moving during the spring and fall.

The roots of a plant can be sensitive to the harsh conditions and temperature of the winter and summer months. It’s not impossible to move plants during these times, but it is best to avoid it if possible.

Trim and Prune

Like any living organism, the larger your plants are, the more energy they need and consumer.

That’s why before you uproot and transport them, consider trimming them down a bit. Removing any dead leaves or excess foliage will help the plant conserve energy during the stressful uprooting and moving process.

Hydrate Before Moving

To help keep your plants alive and healthy during transit, give them thorough hydration.

We recommend doing this the night before you uproot the plants. That will offer plenty of time for the soil and roots to soak up the water and nourish themselves.

Slow and Steady Uprooting

Uprooting is not an easy process for you or your plants, so we recommend going slow and steady with the following steps.

First, you will want to dig a circle around the plant using a trowel. Once you do that, carefully lift the plant and try your best to keep as much soil attached to the roots as possible. And finally, place the uprooted plant in an adequate-sized container for transport.

Replant ASAP

The longer your plants are uprooted, the higher chance your plants won’t make it.

So as soon as you arrive at your new home, you need to replant. Two ways to help make this process easier on you and your plants is by making your plants the last thing to move and mapping out your garden at the new home before you arrive. These two tips will decrease the time your plants are exposed and are at risk for decay.
