One of the most exciting things about moving to Colonial Homes is that it adjoins the Atlanta Beltline, an ambitious 22-mile project that is being developed along a former train corridor that circles Atlanta. Some of it has already been turned into a biking and hiking trail, along with other recreational and entertainment events, but the full project will create more affordable housing, transportation and business opportunities for the neighborhoods that border it.

In Colonial homes, the Beltline goes through Tanyard Park, an urban forest that is on the southwestern side of Colonial Homes, where it then veers off to the northeast. That’s not all of the recreational opportunities here, though. Just north of the park is the Bobby Jones Golf Course and the Bitsy Grant Tennis Center. In nearby Ansley Park is the Atlanta Botanical Garden. The town of Ansley Park itself makes for a good visit if you enjoy viewing historic architecture and splendid homes.

Other fun things to do, all close to or directly bordering this neighborhood include:

    • High Museum of Art: Atlanta’s largest art museum, located in the city’s art district,
    • Center for Puppetry Arts: puppet shows and workshops and classes for all ages.
    • SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion & Film: all kinds of exhibits and events. Where else could you learn all about the history and fashion of shoes?
    • Museum of Contemporary Art: Colonial Homes residents can easily walk to this.
  • Atlanta History Center

And then there are the restaurants and nightlife. Not only is it easy to get to those that are located in downtown Atlanta via the MARTA transit (which stops at the Lindbergh station directly to the west), but there are a large number of them close by as well. This is just a taste (pun intended) of nearby options:

  • Treehouse Restaurant and Pub: American food with an easy vibe and a great patio
  • SweetWater Brewing Company: a microbrewery with live music and tours
  • Benihana: the famous Japanese steak house
  • Peach Cobbler Cafe: southern comfort food, peach cobbler and sweet tea.
  • Botica: Spanish and Mexican food plus a bar
  • Elleven 45 Lounge: DJ and dancing, craft cocktails and bar bites

For shopping possibilities there all of the shops along Peachtree Road, which borders Colonial Homes to the east, and many other well-known stores, including Office Depot, Walmart Super Center, Target, and IKEA to name a few.

The Colonial Homes area boasts several above average public schools, making it a good location for families, and there are numerous nearby college campuses, including Georgia State University, the John Marshall Law School and the Savannah College of Art and Design
